This is a Speculative Design Project. As fertility and marriage rates continue to decline globally, the surrogacy industry may be one of the solutions to this problem in the future. In response to this situation, I designed a life supermarket to help people in the future get children. Through this project, I explore the meaning that fertility and marriage give to people, thus provoking people nowadays to think about life, upbringing and marriage.

Today, the marriage and childbearing rates of adults of marriageable age are continuously declining in countries around the world, and if this situation continues, it will lead to a reduction in the labor force, economic decline, and even social unrest.

Provide shopping area, sterile laboratory, reproductive operation area, pregnant mothers living area, and baby living area, with professional medical staff, top biological laboratory, and intelligent freezer equipment.

Introduction of Surrogacy Service System
Describe the relationship between Life Supermarket and the outside world from a larger context and explain its role in the whole society. How Life Supermarket interacts with both external and internal users to achieve its objectives.

CONCEPT 1
Research of Blindbox
The blind box usually contains mostly anime, film, and television IP image entities, or the designer separately designed dolls. But because the box is not marked, consumers only know the product they have won after buying and opening it, so it is named “blind box”.
Driven by the increase in disposable income, the rapid development of the trendy culture industry, especially the increasing number of high-quality trendy toy IPs successfully incubated in the market, the global trendy toy market size from 74.97 billion yuan in 2017 to 124.74 billion yuan in 2019, and is expected to reach 249.48 billion yuan in 2024.

Personality Blind Box
The cells and information cards are packed in blind boxes of the corresponding personality and arranged on the shelves of the freezer. The blind boxes are opened only after the customer has selected and paid for the blind box he likes, after which the customer can go to the hospital to synthesize fertilized eggs.

Introduction of 16 personalities
Our approach has its roots in two different philosophies. Jung’s theory of psychological types and Myers-Briggs theory, the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator® (MBTI®). Our system has two layers: the first (inner) one defines our Roles, and the second (outer) one – our Strategies. There are four roles: Analysts, Diplomats, Sentinels, and Explorers. The Strategy layer shows our preferred ways of doing things and achieving goals. There are four strategies: Confident Individualism, People Mastery, Constant Improvement, and Social Engagement. The roles and strategies are arranged in combinations to form 16 personalities.

Final Design

CONCEPT 2
Persona
After research and analysis, life supermarket is aimed at three main categories of people: people with no fertility, LGBT groups, and office workers.

Location
To find a suitable place for Life Supermarket, research was conducted by analyzing different elements and the persona’s journey.


Thus, life supermarket is located near the central business district of Beijing, surrounded by residential, dining, shopping, and school districts.
Final Design

CONCEPT 3
APP & Website Design
Users can not only shop in offline supermarkets but also complete the surrogacy process through the app and track the progress of the process in real-time. The user can supervise the whole process without leaving home. The information flow diagram of the app is as follows. To seek more partners, we have developed an official website. It is open to hospitals, surrogate mothers, and cells for investment, and they can contact life supermarket through the website to join our surrogacy process. The following is a flow chart of the website’s services for different partners.
